Mission in Africa
π Mission in Africa: The Legacy of Faith and Service
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"
— Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
Africa has been a land of deep spiritual hunger and vibrant faith. Over the centuries, missionaries have brought the Gospel to the continent with courage, compassion, and a vision for transformation.
One of the most well-known missionaries to Africa was David Livingstone, a Scottish doctor and Christian missionary in the 19th century. He traveled deep into Central and Southern Africa, not only preaching the Gospel but also fighting against the slave trade and promoting health and education.
More recently, missions in Africa have expanded beyond evangelism to include:
-
Medical Missions: Christian hospitals and clinics serving in rural regions (e.g., Tenwek Hospital in Kenya).
-
Education: Bible schools and general education programs for children and adults.
-
Community Development: Clean water initiatives, agriculture, and microfinance projects.
Today, African churches are no longer just recipients of missions—they are sending missionaries to other continents! Countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana have become mission-sending nations, sharing Christ’s love around the globe.
The mission in Africa continues—not just by Western missionaries, but through the powerful movement of the African Church itself.
